But neither you nor I are the arbiters of that truth, and the evidence you have attempted to muster as proof of the inviolability of your own position relies just as heavily as does mine on interpretation and opinion, whether you choose to accept it or not.

'Feminism' is not a monolithic movement, nor did it begin so. 'Feminists' are myriad people, holding vastly differing sets of beliefs. Similarly, the church is made up of myriad people, and - as you so effectively pointed out in your response to my attempt to converse with you - not all Christians espouse beliefs others' hold true, or even believe representative of Christianity. Yet when Christians hold positions we disagree with, we do not denounce the religion as a whole. Likewise when Americans (or Brits, if you're British, as the .co.uk suffix on my browser indicates) make statements we know are morally unjust - even when said 'on behalf of the nation' as a whole - I would hope and assume that your response would not be to then denounce your countrymen as a lot.

Millions of people, both male and female, have worked in an effort to change the legal standing of women in the US and the UK over the past 200 years, and as I mentioned before many of these people have held vastly differing beliefs. At the core of these beliefs, however, is the idea that women should be given the same legal rights as men. Perhaps you wish these rights were rescinded? I would in that instance remind you of the many instances in which women who are not yourself have been in the 'protection' of stewards without the moral virtues of your own husband, and in those instances were for millennia unable to secure even the barest necessities of life. You need only to look to the reams of documentary evidence we have to find proof of this. So, I repeat, the central of goal of the feminist movement was at its most basic to simply give women the same legal rights as men. Full stop. As I believe that this is a positive thing, even while many of us disagree with the details of the implementation of these rights, I think it is irresponsible, immature and incredibly naive to refuse to see the complex reality, which is that the movement, as all things human, has brought us both good and bad. I simply argue here that the good not be thrown out along with the bad.

I find it telling that you choose to misread my opinion that women should be educated well enough to identify and express the truth "their own truths," (i.e., the truth, 'in their opinion') a clear indication of your own sin.

Your comments indicate that you hold yourself, your husband, and those who agree with you entirely, to be the only people in possession of the truth, the only people whose reading of the Bible could be inspired by the Spirit, the only ones given enough discernment to interpret scripture. Thus, when I express the truth, it is merely a feeling, a flight of fancy, or a selfish delusion, while when you express it, you are confident in your singular ability to discern and understand. In this you, Sister, display the sin of pride. You are the same commenter who, in a different thread, said you are a Christian. If that is true, it is imperative that I inform you of Jesus' words in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

In those words we understand Truth is not subjective as you have expressed it to be ("...speak their own truths". You have also read several, in your words, "disgusting" statements made by feminists yet declare what your particular definition of feminism to be, setting up a straw man argument.

Based on your understanding of feminism, the movement has done something wonderful. All of those quotes should then be ignored?

It may be that you are young and still conflicted in your walk as a Christian. For that I will admonish you, do not align yourself with any movement but only to the Gospel and Great Commission.

A movement which promotes, encourages, and celebrates the destruction of the family and murder of children in the womb is the enemy of Christianity. Guard yourself from the lies it tells - you have been deceived.
SarahsDaughterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11070845597474113030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115260514178140021.post-33788322849266806132015-01-25T03:51:37.312-06:002015-01-25T03:51:37.312-06:00I write this pre-coffee, so please forgive me if t...I write this pre-coffee, so please forgive me if this comes out muddled: I consider myself a feminist, but I find the things the above women have said just absolutely disgusting. When I think 'feminism,' I think 'giving women the tools to make up their own minds and speak their own truths.' This, to me, means giving them education (not to specify how this should take place, I know many people on here are not big fans of college, but obviously girls can be well educated from home, too). In particular, it means providing them with the chance to hone their abilities to think logically and rationally, to problem solve, and to clearly communicate their ideas. It also means allowing them to develop confidence (which of course comes with mastery of the above skills) so that they can go forward to explore and express their ideas and values.

That - to me quite 'feminist' ideology - is played out on this very blog day after day, month after month, year after year. As such, I see the work of this blog as essentially 'feminist' work. You, as a woman, are able to take a stand here because you have been educated well enough to do so, because you have access to a platform on which to do so, and because we live in a world in which your husband and others believe you have the right and responsibility to do so.

I say this as the daughter, grand daughter and great-granddaughter of women who were denied education and were taught that they were intellectually incapable. You, SD, clearly do not see yourself as intellectually incapable, and neither does your husband. If, in the end, all the feminist movement gives the world is the idea that women are smart and can have ideas, and speak them to the world, as you are doing, then it has done something wonderful, indeed. An example: Elisabeth Badinter wrote a book and released it this past summer called "The Conflict: How Modern Motherhood Undermines the Status of Women." In it, she laughably asserts that the reason why the birth rate is so very low in feminist countries is because there is not enough - can you guess? - feminism! That's right. Women don't have children because they are afraid they won't be able to get right back to work full time. So if we just had more feminism, if women were less inclined to breast feed, if they could put their babies in full time day care right from birth (all things Badinter approves of), more women would be having babies.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115260514178140021.post-20207021370381473462012-11-29T08:18:28.890-06:002012-11-29T08:18:28.890-06:00I don't doubt that we have all been indoctrina...I don't doubt that we have all been indoctrinated to some extent. It just baffles me that the "indoctrinators" continue to hold fast to a political/economic system that has proven to be such an utter failure. Do they really want another North Korea? I suppose the answer is "yes" if they plan to count themselves among the ruling elite. It doesn't make sense any other way.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115260514178140021.post-20903375538581104032012-11-29T07:23:07.122-06:002012-11-29T07:23:07.122-06:00You should also read the Communist Manifesto by Ma...You should also read the Communist Manifesto by Marx. It's sad how, no matter how legitimate or reasonable the goals of some social movements may be at their inception, there's always a group of radicals who never think the work is "done" (or at least recognized as having entered "maintenance" stage). Nope. The end game (for them) is always some soul-crushing Orwellian society that no one in their right mind would want to live in.

Whenever a social movement seeks to make the formerly 'oppressed' *more equal* than its former 'oppressors', we know that movement has been taken over by radicals.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
