Not broken just bent

I have a new music addiction: Fun.

I've had P!nk and Nate Ruess's song "Just give me a reason" stuck in my head for days now:

I love these lyrics that he sings:
I'm sorry I don't understand
Where all of this is coming from
I thought that we were fine
Your head is running wild again
My dear we still have everythin'
And it's all in your mind

How many times have our husbands uttered or thought these exact words?

Sunshinemary has an excellent post up today: Marital Fitness Testing 101: true confessions of a fitness-testing housewife. I don't have much to add to it, she did such a fantastic job explaining what fitness tests are all about, so please venture over there to read it.

This is precisely what the song is speaking of - fitness testing. We know, of course, the reason she's looking for is quite evident if you are a Christian. It's as simple as this: you vowed to do so. Your marriage is not broken, though it may be bent. What is in your control is clear  - go back to the Bible, back to Ephesians and 1 Peter and read. Pray. Repent. Act. Do what you know is commanded of you. Stop looking for your husband to change or do something. Praise God for knowing us so well and setting forth a plan for us to guide us through challenges in our marriages.

  1. Loved Sunshine Mary's post. I haven't heard a lot of Fun, but the few songs I have I like, and liked the performance on SNL. The lead singer has a very interesting tenor voice. I too think sometimes we get lost in out own head and some aren't willing to fight through some rough stretches. But I truly think if you weather a few storms together, you grow from two young oaks to two old oaks; able to withstand all but the worst storms....together.

  2. Thanks for the linkage and kind words, m'dear.

Isn't that the truth! We went through some serious rough patches when we were younger and a number of people encouraged us to divorce. I am SO glad we didn't because our marriage is really good now. But I still fitness test a smidge here and there...
