Women hate art.

Women don't understand art or beauty. They may have their own understanding, but they have no idea how men think about such things.

My son takes pictures of sunsets and sees out of the corner of his eye what nature is doing. My girls have to be told what is pretty. This is strictly my children and my experience. My previous 41 years of experience backs up this same generality. My sister tried so hard to convince me that she had the same intense nature that I did. She is six years older and I was never convinced. It isn't an indictment against women. It just is.

I have said many times before that I love women and value them the way God intends. They just don't have the ability to see the beauty of God's universe the way men do. You need to explain it to them. They can understand it; they just need to be quieted long enough to see it. Women are anxious creatures. Long term views for them necessitate your ability to establish long term security. If you can't provide them with the security, you won't get to appreciate their realization of beauty. It is an awesome thing to witness.

SD had a strong pre-disposition against Europe. The disgust she has displayed for all things European has been long-standing in our household. Recently, she has come to the acceptance that there might be something cool to see in Europe. I look forward to traveling with her to Europe and having her mind open to the beauty that exists there.

  1. Your evidence is anecdotal making a general statement with anecdotal evidence often leads to false statements. I think an appreciation of aesthetics has more to do with individuals then with gender.

    1. Did you miss the part where he said this: "This is strictly my children and my experience. My previous 41 years of experience backs up this same generality."

We'd discussed this before. RLB seemed so disappointed that great art or architecture didn't take my breath away or move me as it did him. Regarding Europe, a lot of it had to do with my historical ignorance. But again that is something RLB has found to be of great priority, teaching me the significant historical events that told a greater story of the art/architecture.

Regardless of all that, we noticed this phenomenon having a son and two daughters. We live in an area that has the most beautiful sunsets we've ever seen. We've observed how our daughters won't take much notices, where as our son runs for a camera to capture the beauty. He gets awe struck. Our girls appreciate that they are beautiful but don't have the same spiritual reaction to it as our son does. It literally fills him with joy.

  2. Forgive me for the oversight I really did miss that . On another note can you explain why the women in your family hate art?

  3. Yeah, I don't agree with this. I am the one in my marriage pointing out all the sunsets and beauty in creation around us. I also do all the art classes with our children (both sexes) and my oldest daughter is outside right now drawing creation for her freetime activity. My Mother taught me how to paint, my Father showed me sunrises that He loved and both instilled a love of Art and Music in me.

Anyhoo...here's a marketing tag line for you. "Your susposed to be changing the world, not changing diapers!" No, I am not kidding.

  4. I don't know why women in my life don't see art the same way I do. However, anon and Carlotta, how can we say men and women are equal in their abilities to perceive beauty based on history? The sheer numbers of great artists in history were men.

BTW, it is a serious question. I know I get mean on some of my other posts. Would you suggest women understand beauty better than men? If so, why? I base my opinion on anecdotal experience and historic creators of great art. By art, I'm referring to painting, sculpting, music, architecture, photography, and writing.

  5. I would not be willing to argue either way. People are just very varied and gender roles dont eliminate an appreciation of something. I see beauty in lots of things my Husband never would have considered even noticing. It is just his personality type. I would say it isnt gender based. As for the great artists and sculptors you are right. But keep in mind during those time periods the artistic women would most likely have expressed her love of beauty through what she wore and provided for her family to wear, homemaking and crafts. Beauty is expressed just as much in a quilt for a beloved baby as in a painting. And many paintings feature women picking flowers, homemaking and doing hand crafts. Sculptind and painting are just as nice as the handmade sweater love knit for weeks. Different expressions of beauty.

  6. The comprehension of aesthetics has more to do with the individual then their being male or female. Also the lack of female artists or female masters of any type has more to do with the lack of seriousness their work was precieved as women's work was not often preserved. On that note have u ever seen old Embroidery samplers, old quilts, tapestry,or knit work, in medival times and well into the 20th century these were art made by women.

The link explains another reason why women artists are less common in antiquity

    1. What date would you like to start this sexist discrimination from? I still don't see it today. The best authors, et al are still men.

  7. So are the best characters in books,at the same time that doesn't tell us anything about appreciating beauty. You were asking about female artists in antiquity, and that is what. I answered. What exactly is your question? Is it about which XY or XX is best or is it really about art and beauty.and creativity?
I think I'm not understanding your real question and I want to understand.

This. When were they officially taken seriously, or haven't they been yet?
